A daylong awareness training for the dairy farm owners on adverse reaction of nitrate poison, prevention and treatment was held in Kaliganj of Jhenaidah on Tuesday. Upazila livestock office in Kaliganj organized the training course at its office with 60 dairy farm owners.

Upazila livestock officer Rezaul Karim and livestock extension officer Sharmin Akter jointly conducted the training session.

The trainers informed the cattle heads including the goats might be affected by nitrate poison if they intake the newly grown grass immediate after drought-like climate. The disease might spread from the grass grown in the dirty environment like drain, low land and dust beans.

If any cattle heads intake the grass anyway it should be fed with vinegar immediately. Further, they should see a vegetarian fast so that he could remove the air from the stomach of the affected ones as early as possible. The said grass could not be fed anyway, they warned.

Upazila livestock office sources said they will train most of the dairy farm owners one after another to save their cattle heads to make the farm profitable and ensure milk protein for all in the locality.

Mention may be made here that four cows of Bhola Ghosh and his son Babul Ghosh of village Rakra in the upazila had died of nitrate poison when they were fed newly grown grass immediate after heavy drought in the last year.

Approximate price of the cows was estimated for Taka 15 lakh, they affected dairy farm owners said.
