Awareness is more important than cancer prevention. Cancer is a terrible disease and breast cancer is on the rise now. Hence it is important for everyone to be aware.
Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest of the inauguration ceremony of two new cancer treatment units at Ahsania Mission Cancer Hospital in Uttara on the occasion of World Breast Cancer Awareness Month on Monday.
The two units are: Kazi Rafiqul Alam Tumor Board and Prof Dr MA High Cancer Registry and Research Center.
The DNCC mayor said, “I do not consider myself a mayor rather a servant of the city. Being the chief guest does not mean sitting on a special chair. Those of us who are public servants must practice to bring awareness in order to bring the change.”
The mayor also said that as the mayor of 54 wards, it is important to visit all the 54 wards. If every area can be visited to seek for votes, it should be possible to go every area to provide the required services.
The event was presided over by Ahsania Mission President Kazi Rafiqul Alam. Prof Dr MA Hai and writer Selina Hossain were present as special guests at the event.
Brigadier General Jobaidur Rahman, Chief Health Officer of DNCC, Prof Dr Kamruzzaman Chowdhury, MD of Ahsania Mission Cancer and General Hospital, Dr Kazi Ehsanur Rahman, Executive Director of Ahsania Mission Cancer and General Hospital and Jahangir Hossain, Councilor of Ward 54, DNCC, were present among others.
