Awardees of two Bengal

The 1st Bharat Bangladesh Film Awards (BBFA) was held in the capital's International Convention City Bashundhara’s Navratri hall on October 21.

The grand award giving ceremony honoured film personalities along with performances of film stars of both Bengals. The event also gave out lifetime achievement awards to renowned film professionals.

Lifetime achievement awards were given to Bangladesh’s and India’s legendary actors Anwara Begum and Ranjit Mallick for their special contribution to the film. Gautam Ghosh and Prosenjit handed the crest to them.

‘Debi’ from Bangladesh and ‘Nagarkirtan’ from India won the Best Film awards whereas ‘Password’ and ‘Byomkesh’ were declared as the Most Popular Films.

Rituparna Sengupta and Jaya Ahsan won Best Actor in a Leading Role (Female) – Popular Award. Jaya also won the award for Best Actor in A Leading Role along with Paoli Dam. Siam Ahmed and Prosenjit won the award for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Male).

Shakib Khan and Jeet won the Popular Actor in a Leading Role. Nasir Uddin Yusuf and Srijit Mukherjee won the Best Directors’ Award.

Ferrari Farhad and Parambrata Chattopadhyay were honored with the Best Script Writer Award at the event. Kamrul Hassan Khasru and Srijit received the award for Best Cinematographer where Touhid Hossain Chowdhury and Sanglap Bhowmik were awarded as Best Video Editors. Hridoy Khan and Vikram Ghosh received Best Music Directors’ Award.

Imran and Anirban Bhattacharya received Best Playback Singer (Male) Award and Shomnur Monir Konal, Fatema Tuj Zohra and Nikita Nandi were awarded Best Playback Singer Female category.

Iman, Arjun Chakraborty, Zakia Bari Momo and Sudipta Chakraborty won the Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Male and Female) respectively. Special Jury Awards were given to Taskin Rahman, Bidya Sinha Mim, Rudronil Roy Ghosh, Abir Chatterjee and Noboni.

The programme has Zee Bangla in India and East West Media Group in Bangladesh as their broadcast partners and ATN Bangla and Gaan Bangla Television as its media partners. The award ceremony was hosted by Mir Afsar Ali and Gargi Roy Chowdhury from India.

Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud was the chief guest of the event. Also present on the occasion were Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, chairman of Bashundhara Group, Bangladesh Protidin Editor Naem Nizam, Chairman of ATN Bangla Mahfuzur Rahman, President of Film Federation of India Ferdousul Hasan, BBFA Coordinator Tapan Roy, Renowned Producer of West Bengal Gautam Ghosh, West Bengal Tourism Minister Bratya Basu and TM Films Chairperson Farzana Munni

The event is being jointly organized by Film Federation of India (FFI) and Bangladesh’s Bashundhara Group in association with TM Films.
