Feroza Begum was a veteran and legendary musician of the subcontinent. However, her tunes and unique singing genius have made her the queen and the eternal incandescent for Nazrul Sangeet.
Since 2016, the University of Dhaka introduced an award named ‘Feroza Begum Memorial Gold Medal’ to keep the name of Feroza Begum alive. The university will award ‘Feroza Begum Gold Medal’ to a nationally recognized music artiste every year. Nominated artiste will be awarded a gold medal and remuneration of BDT 1 lac through an event. In addition, a student of BA Honors from Music department of University of Dhaka with highest CGPA will receive a gold medal at the university's convocation ceremony.
Feroza Begum Memorial Gold Medal and Prize Ceremony 2019 will be held for the 4th time on August 04, 2019. Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Md Akhtaruzzaman will hand over the medal to the winners as the chief guest of the program at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban.
It is mentionable that artiste Sabina Yasmin, Rezwana Choudhury Bonnya and Runa Laila were awarded for Feroza Begum Memorial Gold Medal by Dhaka University consecutively in 2016, 2017 and 2018. In addition the best students of music department of Dhaka University were awarded for the same. This year most popular prominent Lalon Geeti Singer Farida Parveen has been nominated for this award.
