Awami Matsajibi League national council held

The national council of Awami Matsajibi (fishermen) League was held on Friday electing Md Saifur Rahman and Sheikh Ajgar Laskar president and general secretary respectively of the organisation. Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader inaugurated the council at Krishibid Institution, Bangladesh (KIB) auditorium in the capital yesterday morning with the playing of the national anthem.

The council also elected Saidul Alam Manik as the executive president. Vice-presidents are Abul Bashar, Abdul Gafur, Mohammad Alam, Babul Miah, Mir Asaduzzaman, Shahe Alam Mia and Nasrin Sultana. Engineer Abdul Alim, Tipu Sultan and Rafiqul Islam Rafiq were made joint general secretaries.

Awami League Presidium Member Matia Chowdhury, Office Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap and Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi were present on the occasion, among others. Matsajibi League Council Preparatory Committee convener Narayan Chandra Das presided over the function. Obaidul Quader announced the names of newly elected leaders of Matsajibi League.

Awami League leaders in the council urged the newly elected leadership of the Matsajibi League to work with honesty and sincerity for the development of the country. They further said that Awami League leadership does not want any leader in any of its front organisations who will be involved in extortion. Clean-image leadership will be established in all front organisations of the party, they added.

They also urged the party leaders and workers to remain alert, saying conspiracy is being hatched to thwart the popular government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
