Jannatul Nayeem Avril came to the spotlight through the Miss World Bangladesh competition. She is currently working in drama, telefilm and music videos.
A Mizan spoke to her about her work and current engagements.
Your serial drama titled 'Chayabibi' is being aired right now.
It is being aired on Boishakhi TV directed by Sajjad Hossain Dodul. It is a story about village superstition. In the show, I go to the village from Dhaka to rid the villagers of superstition.
You don’t want to act in serial drama?
You’re right. I usually do not want to work in series. I will not be working in series any more. I have a close familial bond with Dodul bhai and the story of the drama is very good. So I'm doing this. I’ll work on hour-long drama and telefilm. I recently took part in an hour-long drama directed by Sujan Barua. The name of the drama is 'Sheshta Ektu Bhinnorokom'. This is where I first worked with Tisha apu.
How has Nusrat Imrose Tisha helped you with your work?
Tisha apu is very sweet. She likes me very much. Apu mentioned me riding bikes many times. She said she was inspired by my work. Tisha apu is a very talented actress. She has been very affectionate to me.
So will you become a regular of the small screen?
There is no such thing as small or big screen for me. I want to be an actor, I do not want to be a heroine or star. I am now working for television, but I will also work in film. I am preparing myself for film.
You have been preparing for work in cinema for a long time. When will you be ready?
When people see me on the big screen, if they don't like my look or my acting, they won't see any of my other movies. Now I'm almost ready. I hope I can give some good news this year.
You will work as Shakib Khan's heroine. It was also talked about in various media. A year has passed but you have not been seen in Shakib's movie. Did you say that just to gain notoriety?
Yes, I was supposed to be his heroine. However, I am not thinking about Shakib Khan now.
Why?
I am not thinking about Shakib bhai because I want better work. I'm waiting to see what Shakib bhai has in store. Shakib bhai told me he wants to work with me. He said my hair needs to be longer. My hair is already long. He also contacted me about whether I want to work or not. I told him, bhai, my performance should improve more. That's why I got into drama. So I am not thinking about Shakib bhai now.
When will you think about that?
It’s not necessary that I have to think about him. We have a lot of new faces in the industry.
Which newcomer’s work do you like?
To me, ABM Sumon's work is very good. His look and acting is very good. I think he should get more opportunities.
You have worked in music videos as well.
I got a lot of new music video offers. I've done quite a few music videos. I don't want to work on it anymore. I think there is not much chance of acting in the music videos that are being made in Bangladesh now. Same expressions are given on all music videos. That's why I don’t want to work in music videos.
You had more negative publicity compared to the amount of work you’ve done in your career. What is your comment about it?
I was a biker before. Some people know me as a biker lady. When I first took part in the Miss World Bangladesh competition, many did not accept it. I had denied my marriage. They could not accept that a girl from an unknown village became a champion.
In fact, my marriage was not a secret. I never accepted it as it was child marriage. That’s why I denied it. I can't explain this to each and every person. I have nothing to prove about it. I just want to prove myself more by doing good work.
