AUW Choir tours BD and India

The Asian University for Women (AUW) Choir is touring Bangladesh and India to perform ‘From Earth to Heart’. The performance features Christmas Baroque and traditional songs from France, the Middle East and South-East countries.

Under the direction of Dr Selvam Thorez, from Alliance française Chittagong, and Ethan Goldbach, Senior Instructor of Pathways for Promise at AUW, the AUW Choir is performing songs from French ancient culture and East and South-East Asian countries. The 35 singers of the choir, coming from 14 countries, will be joined by the French professional ensemble Son Ar Mein.

The choir and ensemble will perform 16th-century French choir pieces like the famous ‘Mignonne’, ‘allons voir si la rose’, ‘The Young Girl’, and ‘The daughter of the King Louis’. Eastern songs that will be featured include in the performance include Cambodian song, The River Man; Nagaland song, Love of God; Arabic song, Give me the flute; as well as Bengali songs from Tagore.

Asian University for Women Choir has been in partnership with Alliance française Chittagong for a musical project under the direction of Dr Selvam Thorez. This project aims to help young women to develop their cultural and vocal knowledge and to improve their self- confidence. Dr Selvam leads weekly vocal classes and musical theory and history. While talking to Dr Selvam, he said, “Music is a universal language. This concert will take the audience on a musical journey all over France, the Middle East and South Asia.”
