Millions of Rohingya refugees have been forced to flee from their homes in the Rakhine state of Myanmar. Over 1 million now live in camps in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. Asian University for Women (AUW) alumnae are at the forefront of the response to the Rohingya Refugee Crisis in Cox’s Bazar.

More than 45 AUW graduates are working for the UN and other international organizations and NGOs on the ground and in offices around Cox’s Bazar. These women are standing out in remarkable ways as they contribute to resolving the crisis with their strong humanitarian spirit and professional skills.

“They possess immense confidence and knowledge that has been an absolute asset to our work here.” said Peter Guest, Emergency Coordinator for the World Food Programme Rohingya refugee response.

AUW cultivates a culture of empathy and understanding in a truly international learning environment with students from 17+ countries and Faculty from 10+ nations. AUW encourages graduates to go back to their communities, equipped with the professional skills that they need to make a difference.

“AUW is enormously pleased to see so many of our graduates actively engaged in serving the needs of the Rohingya population in Cox’s Bazar. This engagement shows in a powerful way the courage, the competencies and the values of service that AUW encourage in each student.” said Kamal Ahmad, the founder of the AUW.

In honour of World Refugee Day, AUW has released a video featuring our Alumnae and their work at the Rohingya Refugee Camp in Cox’s Bazar.
