Several hundred autorickshaw drivers formed a human chain at the Ghorachattar of Shaheb Bazaar area of the city demanding relief and immediate permission to ply autorickshaws through the city roads on Sunday noon.
The autorickshw drivers during the human chain programme said, the auto-rickshaw drivers in the city are now facing starvation since their earnings remained suspended due to lockdown.
They are now facing an acute food shortages. Moreover, they said, due to keeping the autorickshaws inoperative, the battering of those vehicles are being damaged.
They informed, more than 200 autorickshaw drivers' families are now facing an acute shortage of food at their homes. As a result, they were forced to arrange a human chain in the city demanding adequate relief during this lockdown crisis.
The drivers at the human chain also demanded permission to ply autorickshaws in city roads by maintaining road safety and social distance.
They demanded to the Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi, concerned councillors and to the Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation to supply them adequate relief for their survival.
Auto drivers including Rafique, Abdullah, Hannan and Masum addressed the human chain programme.
