A battery-run auto-rickshaw driver was killed as a truck crushed him on Jamalpur-Sarishabari regional highway in Kutamoni area of Jamalpur Sadar upazila on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Yusuf Ali, 45, son of Ayez Uddin, resident of Bisik Shantinagar area in Jamalpur town.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night.
Local sources said a Sarishabari bound mustard laden truck was coming from Jamalpur when it collided head-on with a battery-run auto-rickshaw which was coming from the opposite side. As a result, the auto rickshaw driver Yusuf Ali was crushed by the truck and died on the spot. However, there was no passenger in the auto-rickshaw during the accident.
Vehicle movement on Jamalpur-Sarishabari regional highway was suspended for one hour at that time.
On information, members of Jamalpur Fire Service and Civil Defense recovered the body and took it to Jamalpur Sadar Police Station.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jamalpur Sadar Police Station Abu Faisal Md Atik said a battery-run auto-rickshaw driver was killed in a collision with a truck. Police personnel were sent to the spot and the body was brought to the police station. Legal measures will be taken on the basis of complaint, said the OC.
