Australian High Commissioner Julia Niblett has visited Tungipara and paid respects to Bangladesh’s Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. She also lauded his vision for Bangladesh after paying respect. On the first day of the centenary year of the birth of Bangabandhu, the High Commissioner accompanied by her spouse, Dr Peter Shannon, travelled to Tungipara, Gopalganj.

After paying their respects at the birthplace and the grave of Bangabandhu, Niblett underlined the leading role he played in the founding of Bangladesh as an independent nation. “Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is a giant of Bangladesh’s history and in this centenary year of his birth, we commemorate his profound contribution to the founding of the nation and acknowledge his farsighted vision for a golden Bangladesh,” she said in a statement. Bangladesh will celebrate the birth centenary of Bangabandhu as Mujib Barsho or Mujib Year from March 17, 2020 to March 2021. The countdown will begin on January 10.
