The ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 is on the horizon as the cricket extravaganza starts from May 30 in England and Wales, with 10 participating teams. Today we will analyze about the chances and potentials of five-time world champions Australia in this year’s World Cup competition. Troubled situation does not even begin to cover Australia’s lead-up to their Cricket World Cup title defense in England. Champions on home soil four years ago, Australia have won four of their last five editions of the Cricket World Cup since their triumph in England 20 years ago.

However, since the sandpaper incident in South Africa, which ended as a one-year ban for two iconic Aussie players, Steve Smith and David Warner, culture of cricket in Australia have changed a lot. During that one-year tenure, Aussie cricket have gone through lot of lows. However, the tide has turned and eight ODI wins on a trot have seen the Australians gather momentum – beating India and Pakistan in their last two series, that too in enemy’s turf in India and UAE respectively.

Box-office David Warner is back from his ban and was in supreme form at the IPL, while captain Aaron Finch is likely to open with him. Ex-captain Steve Smith is also in the World Cup roster, which always is an X-factor for the Aussies. Australia could not have come into form at a better time – and with a strong, balanced squad, Finch’s side have emerged as contenders once again. Australia will not give up their title without a fight and a place in at least in the semi-finals can be expected if they keep up their current form.
