Two children, aunt and the niece by relation, died by drowning in water of a pond at Bakhrabaj Daskhinpara area under Kantakhali Police Station of the city on Tuesday morning.
The deads were identified as Aymene Akhter Shelly (13), daughter of Anisur Rahman and Zisa Khaun(9) daughter of Ziaur Rahman of the same village, informed Zillur Rahman, Officer-in-charge of Kantakhali Police station. Shelly was a student of class six and Zisa was a student of class three in a local school. Both of them went to take a bath in the pond around 11-00 am on Tuesday and were drowned in the water.
Sensing their absence, local people start to search inside water of the pond but failed to rescue them. Later the divers of Fire Service department rushed to the spot and rescued them unconscious from under water and sent them to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where the attending doctors declared them dead.
