Real life crime based 6-episode web series ‘August 14’ has been cited with the violating of Pornography Control Act, 2012 and the Digital Security Act, 2016.

This has been mentioned in a notice sent to the email of Secretary to the Ministry of Information, Secretary to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Chairman and Director of BTRC, IG of Police and Additional Deputy Inspector General of Cyber Police Bureau of CID.

The notice has been sent by Supreme Court lawyer Tanvir Ahmed on June 14.

The notice said that offensive scenes in domestic movies and web series are increasing day by day due to lack of proper monitoring or control. Recently, the web series 'Boomerang' and 'August 14' have shown offensive scenes on Binge , one of the video providers in Bangladesh, and YouTube.

Even in these web series, no warning message was given while scenes of smoking or drinking alcohol were shown. Therefore, these videos are a clear violation of the Pornography Control Act, 2012 and the Digital Security Act, 2016 which is also a threat to the culture and social order of our country.

Therefore, within 24 hours of receiving the notice, the offensive video of the movie-web series has been asked to be stopped and removed.

At the same time, the recipients of the notice have been asked to inform within the next 7 days why a separate policy will not be formulated for the control of web-based broadcasting. Otherwise appropriate legal action will be taken in this regard.
