Attack on journalists in Santhia

Six journalists including Press Club President Manik Mia Rana were attacked while collecting news in Santhia Upazila of Pabna. 

The incident took place at Rangamatia village of Nandanpur union of the upazila at 11:30 am on Thursday. The attackers vandalised journalists' cameras and logos. Police arrested two people from the spot.

It is known that President of Santhia Press Club and Santhia correspondent of daily Kalbela Manik Mia Rana, Pabna district correspondent of Pratidin Sangbad Khalekuzzaman Pannu, North correspondent of RTV Taijul Islam, East correspondent of Mohana TV Iqbal Hossain, Santhia correspondent of Anand TV Manowar Parvez Manik and Santhia correspondent of Manabkanth MJ Sulav. Nasir Hossain (42) and Helal Hossain (45), sons of the deceased Eken Ali Sardar, stopped him from collecting the news of house vandalism in Rangamatia village of Nandanpur union of the upazila at 11 am on Thursday (March 14). 

They abused the journalists using indecent language when they went to take pictures of the vandalised houses. At one point, Taijul Islam, the North correspondent of RTV went ahead and snatched the camera from his hand while he was going to video and Anand TV Santhia correspondent Manwar Parvez vandalized Manik's logo (boom) and threw it in the pond. When the police were informed about the incident, the police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. 

The police arrested two people named Nasir and Helal from the spot and brought them to the police station.

In this incident, Manik Mia Rana filed a written complaint with the police station as the plaintiff. Santhia police station OC Anwar Hossain said that the police went to the scene. Received written complaint. 

Two people were arrested from the spot. Meanwhile, General Secretary of Santhia Press Club, Ujjal Hossain expressed concern over the incident and strongly condemned and protested. He demanded exemplary punishment for the culprits.
