Renowned veteran actor ATM Shamsuzzaman received Bulbul Ahmed Award on Sunday. Bulbul Ahmed was a legendary actor in Bengali film industry. He had made his place in the hearts of Bangladeshi cinema lovers through his acting. Sunday was the 9th death anniversary of this iconic actor.
Regarding his death anniversary, his family had arranged for prayers and religious rituals at home. Not only that, Bulbul Ahmed Foundation commemorated the legend through day long activities. This foundation is primarily working to commemorate his works. Not only that, the foundation has also been giving awards to veterans of the acting world to extend their honour.
In that continuation, ATM Shamsuzzaman was presented with the prestigious award on behalf of the foundation on Sunday. The award was handed over by the widow of Bulbul Ahmed, Daisy Ahmed and his daughter Tahsin Farzana Tilottama at the Bangabandhu Medical College Hospital while ATM Shamsuzzaman was undergoing treatment there.
Daisy Ahmed says, “Every year the prestigious Bulbul Ahmed Award is awarded to a veteran. This year it is being awarded to renowned actor ATM Shamsuzzaman. He is happy to receive this award. The Bulbul Ahmed Foundation works to keep the memories of Bulbul Ahmed alive among the people.”
Even though Bulbul Ahmed was a renowned actor of the big screen his acting career started with the small one. He first acted in a drama titled ‘Borof Gola Nodi’ directed by Abdullah Al Mamun. Later on in 1972, he started working in films under the direction of Abdullah Yusuf Imam. In 1972, he came in front of the audience as a hero through the film ‘Iye Kore Biye’ directed by Alamgir Kabir.
He was awarded the National Film Award four times for his acting. Alongside acting in films, he also directed a number of titles too—‘Mahnayak’, ‘Valo Manush’, ‘Rajlakkhi Srikanta’, among others is prominent.
