The need for reinforcing cybersecurity has often been neglected in Bangladesh because of the absence of stern and effective cybersecurity regulatory norms.  The recent dilemma associeted with cybercrime which the government is facing amid the pandemic is the surge in ATM hacking across the country.

According to a report published by Cyber Crime Awareness Foundation (CCA Foundation), the number of cybercrime in the country has increased alarmingly, including social media and other online account hacking or information theft.

Banks should reinforce their

security measures to avoid the

risk of being hacked

Hackers have been involved in fraudulent activities through mobile and ATM banking. They are engaging in this fraud in the greed of earning more money. The law enforcement investigation has revealed that hackers have recently stolen money from ATM booths in several places in the country.

To tackle this everyone including government and non-government organisations have to work together from their respective places. It is now not only up to the organisations but also to the governent to prioritise country’s cybersecurity needs urgently. A specialized cybersecurity department should be deployed which will focus completely on tackling cybercrimes.

Over the last years widespread intervention of IT in banking sector has made the banks vulnerable to Cyber attacks. Most of our banks do not have next generation firewalls, and email getaways, which are essential for safeguarding network security. What banks should do is to reinforce their security measures to avoid the risk of being hacked.
