Director Sujit Paul’s debut film, Atithi, is a relationship tale. It revolves around a mental rehabilitation centre called Ashray, where patients are treated as guests. The film stars Rajat Ganguly, Rituparna Sengupta and Pratik Sen in pivotal roles. Dr Prajnamoy (Rajat) and his daughter, Snigdha (Rituparna), run the rehab. Dr Arindam (Pratik), a family friend, helps them in this process. A young duo, who have lost their memory in a road accident, come to the centre.
They can’t even remember their names, so Dr Prajnamoy names them Antim (Nishan Nanaiah) and Antara (Saayoni Ghosh). Antara gradually starts liking Antim. However, after regaining her memory, Antara can’t recognise Dr Arindam and Dr Snigdha. “There are many such twists and turns in the film including the relationship of Snigdha and Arindam,” said the director.
There’s another twist after Antara and Antim’s past is revealed. “Rituparna has brilliantly performed the role of a doctor. This is also the first time south Indian actor Nishan is playing a role in a Bengali feature film. The film’s story is by Joydeep Mukherjee,” added Sujit.
Atithi also features Subhasish Mukherjee, Biswanath Basu, Krishnakishore Mukherjee, Arindal Bagchi, Manoj Mitra and Tulika Basu. “All of them meet the demand of the screenplay. Soham is playing a cameo role. This is a film that people of all generations must watch. People who have watched the film are all praise for its unique stroyline,” the director signed off.
Presented by Joydeep Mukherjee and Arijit Dutta, produced by Artage Films and Incoda Movies, Athiti is running in the theatres.
