Meanwhile, the two city corporation’s mayoral election was held on February 1 this year. Awami League mayoral candidate for DNCC Atiqul Islam defeated BNP-backed candidate Tabitha Awal.

In the south, Awami League-backed candidate, Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, was elected as DSCC mayor by defeating BNP-backed candidate Engineer Ishraq Hossain.
