The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has seized assets worth approximately Tk 400 crore belonging to former Textiles and Jute Minister and ex-MP of Narayanganj-1 (Rupganj), Golam Dastagir Gazi, over allegations of fraud, forgery, hundi operations, under- and over-invoicing, and organised financial crimes.

CID’s Special Superintendent of Police (Media), Md. Jasim Uddin Khan, confirmed the development in a press release on Wednesday.

According to CID, Gazi acquired 4,879.92 decimals of land in the Khadun area of Rupganj between 2015 and 2018 using 69 land deeds. Although the documented value of these properties is around Tk 16.52 crore, the actual market value is estimated to be Tk 400 crore. The land houses the Gazi Tyre factory and other infrastructures.

Due to the lack of valid documentation on the source of these assets, CID’s Financial Crime Unit launched an investigation.

Following court approval on 8 July, the Senior Special Judge’s Court in Dhaka ordered the property to be seized.
