We strongly condemn and protest the assassination attempt on former American President Donald Trump at an election rally on Saturday. We are appalled by the shocking scenes at the rally. We believe political violence in any form has no place anywhere in our planet.

This incident is really regretful. The USA always feels proud of its democracy. We also wonder how such an attack on a presidential candidate and a former president of America could take place in a civilised and democratic country like USA.

In Bangladesh too assassination attempt on Sheikh Hasina was taken. As a nation, we cannot ever forget the heinous attempt of killing Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s daughter Sheikh Hasina through grenade attacks in 2004. The vested quarter, who assassinated Bangabandhu in 1975, also tried to destroy Awami League by killing its President Sheikh Hasina with grenades on an anti-terrorism rally at Bangabandhu Avenue on August 21 in 2004.

We believe political

violence in any form

has no place anywhere in our planet

Former US president Donald Trump was shot at ear during a campaign rally on Saturday in Pennsylvania and he was rushed off the stage instantly.  As the bangs ran out, 78-year-old Trump grimaced and clutched a hand to his right ear, with blood soon visible across his face.

Donald Trump said he was supposed to be dead after surviving an assassination attempt which he described as a very surreal experience. It was a very surreal experience he recounted with a white bandage covering his right ear.

Secret Service agents swarmed onto the podium, surrounded the Republican candidate and escorted him roughly off the stage, as Trump raised a fist to the crowd in defiance. The suspected shooter was confirmed dead, along with one bystander, US media reported.

The shooting must be strongly condemned by all defenders of democracy and political dialogue. As the general people of a democratic country like Bangladesh, we reject all forms of violence anywhere.

Violence isw a threat to democracies and weakens our life together. We must all reject it. All must stand firm against any form of violence that challenges democracy.
