Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, on Wednesday said that any official statement regarding his possible resignation will be issued by the Chief Adviser's Press Wing.
Addressing a press briefing at the Secretariat in the, he said, "I will contest the election, that is certain."
"But at this moment, I cannot say anything about resignation. Further information on this matter will come from the Chief Adviser's Office. The press wing will make the announcement when necessary," said Asif, who also oversees the youth and sports ministry.
His sudden call for an emergency press conference earlier in the day had fuelled speculation that he might declare his resignation.
Earlier, Asif had expressed interest in contesting from the Dhaka-10 constituency as an independent candidate. He has also applied to be registered as a voter in that area.
