Artist couple displays works in ‘Dwaitarath’

Artist couple Shahina Rahman and Masudul Haque has displayed their artworks in an exhibition titled Dwaitarath under way at the Gallery Chitrak in capital’s Dhanmondi. 

The nine-day exhibition is featuring 57 artworks created using different mediums, including acrylic, mixed media, oil on canvas and others mostly between 2022 and 2023.

The duo studied at the drawing and painting department of the then Institute of Fine Arts, now fine arts faculty of the University of Dhaka.

Depicting landscapes, flowers, rivers, birds and some modern and experimental works based on nature, Shahina Islam has displayed her 34 artworks at the exhibition.

On the other hand, Masudul Hoque has displayed artworks depicting landscapes, rivers, cityscapes, genocide and others.

Among the artworks, Shahina Islam’s oil on canvas work titled Lonely Blue shows a lonely pigeon standing on the bank of the blue sea.

Her acrylic on canvas work titled Blue Desire-1 shows a green landscape with a blue sky comprising diverse shades.

The artist’s another acrylic on canvas work titled Repose shows boats moored on the bank.

Masudul Hoque’s acrylic on canvas work titled Witness shows an old building.

His acrylic on canvas work titled Wend shows rickshaw pullers driving rickshaws on the street of Old Dhaka.

‘Although we both have displayed our artworks in many national and international group art exhibitions, this is the first time we have jointly displayed our artworks in an exhibition,’ said Masudul Hoque.

‘After practising jointly for many years, it indeed feels nice to display our artworks in an exhibition. Besides the audience, our friends are also appreciating us,’ Masudul Hoque added.

The exhibition was inaugurated by renowned painter and cartoonist Rafiqun Nabi on June 9.

President of Bangladesh Chamber of Industries Anwar-ul Alam Chowdhury was present as special guest at the inaugural ceremony, which was presided over by artist Farida Zaman.

The exhibition will end on June 17.
