A staff bus of Shilpa Bank was set on fire allegedly by BNP-Jamaat miscreants at Motijheel area in the capital on Monday ahead of another spell of the BNP-enforced countrywide blockade programme.
Miscreants set fire to the vehicle in front of Bangladesh Bank at around 3:35pm on Monday, said Fire Service Control Room duty officer Ershad Hossain.
On information, two firefighting units were sent to the scene. But locals extinguished the fire before fire fighters reached the spot, he said.
Belal Hossain, an inspector of Motijheel Police Station, said some seats of the bus were damaged in the fire.
In another incident, BNP-Jamaar terrors allegedly set fire to a passenger bus of Midline Paribahan at Mohammadpur bus stand area in the capital.
Rashed bin Khaled, duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters, said “We received the information about the fire in the bus at around 8:30pm.
“Two units from Mohammadpur fire station were sent to the spot after receiving the information,” he added.
BNP has once again called for a nationwide blockade starting on Tuesday.
BNP and Jamaat have been enforcing hartal and blockade for four days a week since October 28 with an evil intention to destabilise the country.
A total of 265 vehicles have been torched by BNP-Jamaat miscreants since October 28.
