Arrowverse creator Marc Guggenheim wants to see the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover get re-released as a full movie. Since 2012, the Arrowverse has been one of The CW's biggest flagship franchises, starting with Arrow and allowing several spinoff shows to be born in the following years. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Greg Berlanti-produced universe would host annual crossovers, with the last being Crisis on Infinite Earths, which aired from December 2019 to January 2020. The five-part event was a game-changer as Crisis on Infinite Earths served as a soft reboot for the Arrowverse since it united the remaining shows in one universe.
It has been almost three years since The CW aired Crisis on Infinite Earths, which became Oliver Queen's last Arrowverse crossover before the character passed away during Arrow's final season. One of its creators, Guggenheim, who was the driving creative force for Crisis on Infinite Earths, shared on Twitter one of his hopes for the unforgettable crossover. The former Arrow showrunner said for Crisis on Infinite Earths' fifth anniversary, he would love to gather a VFX budget big enough that he could edit it together as a film. While the five separate episodes became available on various Arrowverse Blu-Ray/DVD sets, Crisis on Infinite Earths never got released as its own special home release, where it was edited as a one-shared product. Despite the fact that the Arrowverse has gotten smaller in the last year due to The CW's new owners, the franchise is still going - for now. Even though it wasn't a traditional Arrowverse spinoff show, Stargirl was adjacent to the franchise as the final season finished airing this week on The CW. However, The Flash is set to return for season 9 on Feb. 8, 2023, with a 13-episode order that will wrap up the Arrowverse drama after nearly a decade. Despite being initially conceived as an Arrowverse spinoff, the Superman & Lois season 2 finale revealed it exists on a parallel Earth in the same multiverse as Berlanti's franchise.
