A human chain has been formed in Gopalganj, protesting the death of former UP member Zakaria Bhuiyan of Kazulia union. The protestors demanded the arrest of the killers.
The locals formed the human chain on Thursday morning in front of the press club on Bangabandhu road.
Zakaria's wife Akhlima Khatun, brother Nazmur Hassan Chowdhury, W Qazi, among others spoke at the rally.
The speakers condemned the killing and urged exemplary punishment of the perpetrators.
They also said that even after 8 days of the incident police have not arrested any of accused yet. However, the killers have been threatening to withdraw the case in various ways. At present, they are suffering from insecurity. They also issued a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner at the end of human-chain for quick action.
It is to be noted that on September 10, Zakaria was brutally killed on the Dattadanga Bridge in Bajunia village of Gopalganj district. He was then admitted to Gopalganj 250 Bed General Hospital and later transferred to Khulna Medical College Hospital. But he died while undergoing treatment. Later, on September 13, Zakaria's elder brother Golam Rabbani Bhuiyan filed a murder case (No-26) in Gopalganj police station against 60 accused.
