Army will discharge duty to fight coronavirus: General Aziz

Chief of Army Staff General Aziz Ahmed on Thursday said Bangladesh Army will professionally discharge any responsibility given by the government to combat corona situation.

He expressed the resolve while talking to the journalists after the 78th BMA long course and the 53rd special course presidential parade at Bhatiary in Chattogram on Thursday.

He said, “The capacity of all the Combined Military Hospitals (CMH) in the country has been enhanced to deal with corona crisis.”
The army chief added that Bangladesh Army has taken all preparations to deal with the corona crisis.

According to him, 4,157 members of Bangladesh Army and their dependents have so far been infected with coronavirus and 26 of them have died.

Earlier, General Aziz Ahmed reviewed the smartly turned out contingent and took salute of the parade at the BMA Parade Ground as the chief guest. Later, he distributed prizes among the meritorious cadets.

A total of 255 officer cadets -- 231 male cadets and 24 female cadets from 78th BMA Long Course and 53rd BMA Special course -- have been commissioned in Bangladesh Army through the parade.

This year the Presidential Parade on the occasion of receiving commission of officer cadets of Bangladesh Military Academy (BMA) was held in a short and informal manner.

Battalion Senior Under Officer Tamim Ahmed was awarded with the most prestigious ‘Sword of Honour’ for the all-round performance.

Company Senior Under Officer Masruf Hasan Nayem received the ‘Chief of Army Staff (CAS) Gold Medal’ for the best performance in military subjects.

Later, the cadets formally took oath and were adorned with the badges of rank by their respective guardians.
