The Bangladesh Army will be deployed as a "striking force" during the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) election to ensure a fair and secure voting process.
Professor Kazi Maruful Islam, returning officer for the Ducsu election and a faculty member of the Department of Development Studies, said on Tuesday.
He said army personnel would be stationed at the seven main entrances of the university on election day. After voting concludes, the centres will remain surrounded to prevent unauthorised entry until the results are announced.
The DUCSU returning officer also said the Dhaka University Metro Rail Station will remain closed on election day. In addition, no outsiders will be allowed to stay in the university's halls for seven days before the election.
According to him, these decisions were finalised at a meeting held on Monday between the university administration and the DUCSU returning officers.
After nearly six years, the DUCSU election is finally set to take place on September 9.
