Army supplies water to drought-hit areas

The affected people of Suwalak Union in Bandarban have got drinking water and water for daily necessities at the initiative of Bangladesh Armed Forces.

On Wednesday, a team sent by the Army Zone at the initiative of Bangladesh Army, Bandarbar Region has provided water for drinking and external use to the people of Reicha area under Sadar Union, which is currently facing water crisis in the area.

Bandarban, a southeastern hill district of the country, has been hit hard by the effects of climate change. The level of natural disasters like storms, floods and droughts is increasing in this region. With that the sea level is rising. Although, people in the district rely on many streams and waterfalls for water, 70-80% of the households in the district are in dire need of drinkable water as due to the summer season, all of these streams have dried up. In the scorching sun and intense heat of summer, the water sources used by the people in Sadar Union under Bandarban Hill District have dried up. This is threatening the lives of the people of the region due to the acute water crisis. The Bandarban Army Zone has finally stood by the people in this difficult danger after seeing the various complaints of the locals about the water and the acute water crisis.

A great initiative has been taken by the Bandarban Army Zone to fulfil the demand of daily necessities like drinking water, fulfilling the supply and demand for water during holy month of Ramadan and Biju, Sangrai festival. 

It is learned that a team of the Army in water tanker vehicles have been the required water to the affected people for three consecutive days till April 15 at the initiative of the Army Zone.

Various people's representatives and common people of Bandarban district have applauded this public welfare work of the army zone. The masses have also called it a blessing.
