Army detains four UPDF terrorists from Rangamati

AK-22 rifle and ammunition seized

Bangladesh Army detained four armed cadres of separatist United People's Democratic Front (UPDF- Prasit Bikash Khisa group) from Rangamati district on early Saturday.

Talking to the Bangladesh Post, an army officer confirmed it on Saturday afternoon.

The arrested were identified as Suren Chakma,36, Onnasong Chakma, 45, Anil Chakma, 19 and Saimon Chakma,40.

He said that acting on a secret information, a team of Bangladesh Army raided Choto Kattali area under Longdu Upazila in Rangamati hill district at 3:00 am.

During the operation, the Army personnel detained four armed terrorists who are active cadres of UPDF (Prasit group) terrorist organization.

The army team also seized a AK-22 rifle, 77 rounds of bullet, a magazine,  one Walkie Talkie set, a solar charger, four mobile sets, fake ID cards, anti-state banner, receipts of extortions and cash amount of Tk 63,592 from their possessions.

During primary interrogation, the arrested terrorists admitted that they had been involved in extortion and terrorist activities in different areas of Rangamati for long time. They also confessed that they were active members of UPDF Prasit group’s armed unit. Process was on to file case in this regard, said the army officer.

He said Bangladesh Army will continue such operation to maintain peace and stability in the CHT.

In the wake of the extortions and terrorism carried out by the armed cadres of the UPDF, locals demanded stern action against the armed terrorist.
