Army deployed, streets in Dinajpur wear deserted look

Bangladesh Army, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Bangladesh Police and local government administration have taken up positions at 13 areas including Dinajpur town to prevent the spread of Covid-19 infection. The magistrates led by Dinajpur district administration have been performing their duties since Thursday morning. Thursday was the first day of the 7 days of severe lockdown announced by the government.

Officials in the administration went to the field to monitor the lockdown for implementing that properly. No shops or shopping malls have been opened since Thursday morning till the time of writing the news. Rickshaws and battery-powered easybikes were not seen operating as the armed forces were on the ground. The few battery-powered vehicles that have been seen were used for food delivery. Although hotels and restaurants remained opened in compliance with the hygiene rules, they have been seen selling food in parcel form.

Although other food shops including vegetable market remained open, the people who come to the market faced trouble due to lack of transportation. No vehicle was seen around the market. Pedestrians had to walk home with the goods from the market. Older people suffered the most. They returned home on foot, which seemed very difficult. Public gatherings were not seen in the town. However, the town's Station Road, Bahadur Bazar, Mordan Junction, Charu Babur, Maldahapatti, Maharaja Junction, Rail Bazar, Fulbari Bus Stand, Medical Junction, Pulhat Sikdarhat Bazar, Fakirpara, Shashtitala, Baluadanga, Paharpur, Kalitala, Suimahari faced some public gathering.

Meanwhile, the condition of the working class people has become more harsh. Also the day laborers in the town are living inhuman life. They are not getting any work due to lockdown. Those who are running their business in installments or have taken loans at high interest rates to run small businesses are in dire condition. They cannot pay the installment as everything is closed in the lockdown. NGO people are harassing these businesspersons in various ways. Some NGO people are forcing people . The victims demanded the government to take necessary steps to ease up their burdens.
