Arms dealer Jewel arrested, weapons, ammunition recovered

Detective Branch (DB) has arrested Sakayet Ullah Jewel (29), a supplier of weapons used in the shooting death of child Tasfia Akhter Jannat (4) at Maleka Baap's shop area in Hajipur Union of Noakhali's Begumganj Upazila. During this time 2 Kiris, 1 Ramda, 1 pipe gun, 2 rounds of ammunition were recovered from him. A case has been filed against the arrested accused at Begumganj Model Police Station under the Arms Act. The arrested Sakayet Ullah Jewel is the son of Habib Ullah of Laxminarayanpur village in Durgapur union of Begumganj upazila.

According to the police, based on the confessional statement given in the court by Mamun Uddin Rimon, the main accused in the murder of the child Tasfia, the DB police launched an operation to arrest Sakayet Ullah Jewel, the supplier of weapons used in the murder. During the operation, Jewel was arrested along with two Kiris and a Ramda from an abandoned house in Solaiman area of Durgapur area around 2.30 pm on Saturday.

Later, on the basis of the information provided by him, 1 pipe gun and 2 rounds of ammunition were found hidden under the bed of the house of the fugitive accused in the case.

Investigating officer of the case, DB Police Inspector Mohammad Sabzel Hossain confirmed the matter and said that necessary action would be taken against the arrested accused Jewel. The operation to arrest the other accused is continuing.

Incidentally, after the murder of Tasfia on April 13 (Wednesday) at noon on Thursday, Humayun Kabir, her aunt’s hisband, filed a case accusing 16 people including Badshah, Rimon and 10-12 others. So far, the law enforcement agencies have arrested 9 accused and 1 arms supplier in the case. The case is currently under investigation by the DB. 

Rimon, the main accused in the case, pleaded guilty to murder and testified in court under section 164. Remand has been granted to Sohail Uddin, Sujan, Naimul Islam and Akbar Hossain.
