A group art exhibition titled ‘Arannya Rekha’ has brought the unique beauty of the Sundarbans to the canvas, highlighting the deep connection between art, nature, and conservation. The five-day exhibition, hosted by Bhumi Gallery in Lalmatia, concludes yeaterday.

The exhibition features 65 paintings created by 12 artists during a special art camp held at the WildTeam Conservation Biology Centre in Joymanighor, Mongla from April 3 to 5 this year. The initiative was organised by Adyapanto, a collective of artists formed in 2019, with support from WildTeam CEO Anwarul Islam and noted ornithologist Inam Al Haque.

The participating artists—Farzana Rahman Bobby, Israt Jahan, Kanak Aditya, Mamun Hossain, Md Rabiul Islam, Md Zahid Hossain, Manjur Rashid, Morsena Rahman Rupa, Nargis Akhter Poonam, Shakti Noman, Upma Das Trina, and Zemrina Haque—explored the forest by boat, immersing themselves in its natural surroundings before bringing their impressions to life on canvas. Their works depict the lush greenery, wildlife, rivers, and the distinctive atmosphere of the world’s largest mangrove forest.

Speaking about the initiative, Saifur Rahman Lenin, founder and head of Bhumi, said, “The contemporary era of art practice is happening all around us. The continuity of the artistic journey has begun. If this continues, artists will be more inspired. We are also a part of it.”

Through this exhibition, the organisers hoped to inspire awareness about the importance of protecting the Sundarbans, while also encouraging young artists to engage with nature as a source of creativity. ‘Arannya Rekha’ not only celebrates the vibrant landscape but also sends a reminder about the fragile balance of this unique ecosystem.
