Appointment of Seikh Bashir as an Adviser of interim govt protested

A large number of people under the banner of 'Gano Odhiker Parishad' staged angry protests against, Seikh Bashir Uddin, one of the three new advisers of the interim government and also the managing director of Akiz-Bashir Group, while he had been taking oath at the Bangabhaban on Sunday evening.

During the protests, they paraded the area with a torch procession.

The protestants termed Bashir Uddin as the cohort of Awami League and said by appointing Bashir as one of the advisers, the Awami League has been rehabilitated again.

They strongly condemned the appointment of Bashir and demanded his immediate removal from the advisory council.

Bashir's one of the brothers, Afil Uddin is a former MP during the AL regime.

Three new advisers of the interim government have taken oath at the Bangabhaban in the evening on Sunday.

The advisers are businessman Sheikh Bashir Uddin, filmmaker Mostofa Sarwar Farooki and Mahfuj Alam.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin administered the oath at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban in the presence of Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus and senior government officials and dignitaries.

Sheikh Bashir Uddin is the managing director of Akij-Bashir Group, a leading industrial conglomerate of the country. He is the son of industrialist Sheikh Akij Uddin.

Mostofa Sarwar Farooki is a film director, producer and screenwriter. He became famous for his films 'Third Person Singular Number', 'Television', and 'No Bed of Roses' which were critically acclaimed at home and abroad.

Mahfuj Alam was one of the coordinators of the Anti-discrimination Student Movement which led the student-people mass uprising in July-August. He currently holds the position of special assistant to the chief adviser.
