The Supreme Court (SC) authorities have extended all the High Court’s (HC) ad-interim bail orders and effectiveness of all others ad-interim orders for the next four weeks amid the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic.
In a circular issued on Monday (May 31), the SC authorities said that they had extended the ad-interim bail orders or other orders, which were given for a specific period and which were served by the High Court on condition to surrender at the lower courts in connection with the cases filed against them, due to Covid-19 situation.
The circular was issued by Registrar General of Supreme Court Md Ali Akbar under the directive from Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain. The SC Registrar General issued the circular in continuation of a similar one issued on May 2.
The Chief Justice has decided to run the court functions on a limited scale to prevent the surge of Covid-19 pandemic. After the decision, the Supreme Court extended all ad-interim bails and orders for two weeks twice on April 5 and April 18 respectively.
On April 11, the Supreme Court declared on a notice that from April 12 all the courts and tribunals would be conducted virtually to settle all the bail and emergency criminal applications.
