Huge quantity of large hilsa fish being caught in the bay at the end of the winter season. Fishermen across the country are getting similar quantity of hilsa, despite the end of hilsa season.
For such big hauls, hilsa is arriving aplenty in different fish landing centers across the country.
Fishermen say that during winter season, hilsa fish are generally not available in the sea and coastal waters, but this year, something different is happening.
According to Patharghata fish landing center information, it was learned that each day, hilsa-laden boats, trawlers and speed boats are returning with abundant hilsa fish. Which is a higher amount comparing the same period of the last 15 years.
In Bhola, Chandpur, Lakshmipur, and other parts of the country, rivers are now full of hilsa fish.
According to fishermen, the main season of the hilsa is over. Every year, May to October is considered the hilsa season. After that, water level goes down and due to the lack of tidal waves, hilsa population is reduced in the bay and rivers.
Chandpur District Fisheries Officer Asadul Baki said, due to fishing ban during the hilsa breeding season, the positive impact is being observed now.
However, they are continuing their drives against jatka (premature hilsa) and the use of illegal nets.
The fishermen and traders are quite happy with the catch they are getting from rivers.
