The rate of Covid-19 antibody generation is higher among the people living in slum areas in Dhaka and Chattogram cities, according to an icddr,b study.

Seventy two percent of people living in slum areas were found having Covid-19, said Dr Rubhana Raqib, one of the principal investigators of the study, while responding to a question in a virtual programme Tuesday.

“About 62 percent of people who live in non-slum areas were also found to be Covid-19 seroprevalence positive,” she said.

A total of 3,220 people took part in the survey titled ‘Driving Factors of Covid-19 in Slums and Non-Slum Areas of Dhaka and Chittagong’taking place in three Dhaka slums and two Chittagong slums between October 2020 and February 2021, said a press release.

The study was conducted with a view to identifying the prevalence of infection in slum as well as non-slum groups in Bangladesh's two largest cities and the factors influencing seropositivity.
