Newly formed Anti-Terrorism Students Unity placed a five-point demand seeking congenial democratic environment in Dhaka University campus and to ensure rights to express thought freely. A total of 12 student’s organisations jointly announced the new platform at a Press conference Friday held at Madhur Canteen.
Their five-point demands are: immediate trial and academic expulsion of those involved in the alleged attack on Nurul Haque Nur and his associates, resignation of DU proctor, withdrawal of case filed by Chhatra league against Nur and others, ensuring of congenial academic and democratic atmosphere at the University campus and Student’s security.
At the press conference, DUCSU Social affairs secretary, also a leader of Bangladesh General Students’ Rights Protection Council, Akhter Hossain read out a written statement. Those 12 Student’s organizations include Bangladesh General Students Rights Protection Council, Chhatra Federation, Chhatra Union and Socialist Student’s Front. The new platform has been formed with a vow of working together to wipe out terrorism and stop oppression from the educational institutions.
“The main objective of the platform is to form a Student’s Movement to create safe, democratic and terrorism free educational campus,” the written press release says. DUCSU Social affairs secretary, Akhter Hossain alleged that ruling party backed Chhatra League created a ‘Fear Culture’ in the educational campuses.
“Dhaka University proctor is taking no steps to save the attacked students, rather, and he talks in favor of the attackers,” he claimed. The platform announced that they will form a mass walk against terrorism form DU Raju Sculpture today (Saturday). After the Press conference,a procession from Shahbag intersection was also brought out. It paraded important streets of the campus and ended at Raju Sculpture.
