Anti-mosquito drive launched in Sreemangal

As dengue cases have increased across the country, a mosquito eradication programme has been inaugurated in Sreemangal Municipality of Moulvibazar district to prevent the mosquito-borne disease. Besides, leaflets were distributed among pedestrians to create awareness about the prevention of dengue.

Sreemangal Municipality's Executive Engineer Md Zahirul Islam inaugurated the mosquito eradication programme in the municipal area on Sunday noon. Municipal councillor and Panel Mayor-1 Kazi Md Abdul Karim and officials and employees of various levels of the municipality were present during the inauguration of the programme.

Md Zahirul Islam said, “Like every year, we have started mosquito eradication programme. We have sprayed mosquito control medicine with fogger machine in the fish market, kitchen market, grocery market and drains in the municipality’s Natun Bazar area. This programme will be conducted in every ward to relieve the residents of mosquito menace and we will continue this programme.”

Sreemangal Municipality Administrator and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) of Moulvibazar district Shahina Akhtar said, “Like all over the country, spraying of mosquito repellent has been started in Sreemangal municipal area. As the incidence of dengue has increased across the country, we have taken up the mosquito eradication programme. Municipal officials and councillors in each ward have been instructed to conduct activities in this regard.”

Informing about continuation of the anti-mosquito programme, she called on the residents to keep the house-yard and surroundings clean to prevent the outbreak of dengue.

Sources said due to proper guidance and leadership during the tenure of former mayor of Sreemangal Municipality Mohsin Mia Madhu in the previous years, no person in the municipal area was affected by dengue.
