Ansar al-Islam member held

Bogura District Detective Branch of Police (DB) members arrested an active member of banned militant group Ansar al-Islam with extremist books and leaflets on Monday midnight.

The arrestee was identified as Hamidur Rahman alias Sumon, 39, son of Maulana Mahmudur Rahman of Kacharikandi area underRaipura police station of Narsingdi. Hamidur is a member of the Dawah Department of Ansar Al Islam.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bogura DB Police Abdur Razzak confirming the news on Tuesday afternoon said the detainee will be produced in court asking a remand of 5 days.

OC Abdur Razzak said an operation was carried out in Mokamatla Bazar area of Shibganj upazila and Hamidur was arrested during the raid. Hamidur is a fugitive accused in two cases in Narsingdi and Narayanganj for being involved in militant activities. 

According to the preliminary interrogation, Hmidur is an active member of Ansar al-Islam who was involved in anti-national militant activities in different parts of the country at different times.

During the interrogation, the detainee further said that he used to have communication with the central leaders of the organization through encrypted messages. He visited different districts for recruitment and fundraising activities under the direction of the militant organisation.

OC Abdur Razzak further said that a case under anti-terrorism act with Shibganj police station is ongoing in this regard.
