Bangladesh ace all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan got a wicket with his magical arms against Sri Lanka in the first ODI match at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Sunday. This wicket was very important for Shakib as he has bagged now 1,000 wickets in his career.

He could have touched this milestone at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. He could have touched the milestone at the Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai or at any other ground. However, Shakib scalped his 1000th wicket at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur against Sri Lanka on Sunday, the ground that gave him the greatest number of wickets.

Four months ago, it was in Sher-e-Bangla, where Shakib grabbed two wickets in the second ODI of the series against West Indies. But after playing one ODI and half a Test due to injury, Shakib did not get any wicket.

Curiosity was there whether, Shakib will touch the milestone in IPL or not! However, after getting two wickets in the first three matches of Kolkata Knight Riders, Shakib’s record was halted at 999 as he was not in the playing XI for the next four-match.

His wait was finally over. In the first ODI in Mirpur, Shakib Al Hasan took the 1000th wicket as the second bowler of Bangladesh by dismissing Kushal Mendis of Sri Lanka. Left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak (1145 wickets) is the first Bangladeshi bowler to achieve this feat so far.

Shakib Al Hasan took his first wicket in the international arena during a ‘A’ team match between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe on February 20, 2005 at the Queen’s Sports Club in Bulawayo. Shakib has played for 25 teams including Bangladesh in first class, List ‘A’ and T20 career. Shakib got more than half of the total wickets wearing Bangladesh’s jersey. The left-arm spinner has taken 569 wickets in three editions for Bangladesh.
