Another day of record Covid-19 deaths, cases

Bangladesh on Friday witnessed yet another day of record Covid-19 cases and deaths.
The health department in the daily update said 46 patients died and 3,471 new cases were found in the last 24 hours till 8am. Both counts are single-day highest so far.

With that, the total number of fatalities from Covid-19 rose to 1,095, and cases surged to 81,523.
Additional Director General for Health Prof Nasima Sultana said they had tested 15,990 samples during the period in 59 labs. The infection rate has been 21.71 percent.

The recovery count also rose to 17,249 after another 502 patients were released from hospitals.
Among the Friday’s list of deceased, 37 were males and nine females - 32 died in hospitals and the rest at home.
19 were from Dhaka, 11 from Chattogram, two from Rajshahi, three from Sylhet, three from Barishal, five from Rangpur, one from Khulna and two from Mymensingh.

So far, according to the latest data by DGHS, 21.16 percent coronavirus infected patients have recovered and 1.34 percent died.
Currently, 59,853 people are quarantined across the country – including 2,888 newly-quarantined individuals. A total of 255,379 people have completed their quarantine course.

The authorities also placed 436 persons suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 9,012 after 5,061 left.

Bangladesh confirmed the first coronavirus death on March 18, ten days after the detection of the first three cases.
The WHO declared the virus pandemic on March 11.

The new virus has killed 424,084 people globally and 7,609,731 more have been infected so far.
The government is asking people to stay at home and wear mask when go out along with maintaining physical distancing and washing hands with soap.
