Singapore will send another medical team of five medical doctors, specialists and nurses to Bangladesh on Thursday to help extend specialized treatment to seriously injured students, teachers and staff of the Milestone School and College in Monday’s aircraft crash incident, sources in Dhaka and Singapore confirmed.
One specialist doctor came to Bangladesh on Thursday night and three of a medical team came Tuesday and are working with Bangladeshi doctors to assess the gravidity of injuries.
Sources said that the Chief Adviser’s office has requested Singapore government to send a medical team to assist Bangladeshi doctors and nurses in rendering better treatment of burned and injured persons.
The interim government is likely to send the injured persons to hospitals in Singapore as per suggestions of a specialist team in phases in the coming days.
The medical team came as part of the government's initiative to provide quality treatment to the victims, said Dr Abu Zafar Ahmed, Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
"The interim government has issued clear directives to take all necessary steps to ensure proper treatment for the injured," he told BSS.
In line with those directives, we have contacted Singaporean physicians, and their first team will reach Dhaka tonight," he added.
The visiting doctors will assess the condition of the injured being treated at various hospitals and decide which patients may need to be taken abroad for further advanced treatment.
Based on the recommendations of the Singaporean physicians, the government will also facilitate overseas treatment for those requiring specialized care.
Following the incident on Monday afternoon, the Health Ministry formed a medical team in coordination with doctors at all levels of the DGHS to monitor the situation.
Team members have been collecting information from different hospitals and remain on alert to arrange advanced care as necessary.
