In the name of providing medical services, many so-called clinics and diagnostic centres have been set up in the villages of Thakurgaon district.

A clinic called "Janseba Clinic and Diagnostic Center" has been set up along the main road in Kisamat Tewarigaon Munsipara area of Gareya union of Thakurgaon Sadar upazila. This institution does not have government approval or license.

Despite not having its own building, adequate equipment and skilled manpower, a caesarean patient accused the clinic of embezzling Tk 4 lakh in the name of medical treatment.

A few days ago, Pratima Rani (36) of Kisamat Hazari village in Boda upazila of Panchagarh district was admitted to the clinic with a caesarean section problem. When the clinic authorities demanded a hefty sum of money at the end of the treatment, a quarrel broke out between the two parties.

There are also numerous complaints about these unlicensed institutions like public service clinics set up in urban villages. As a result, the patients have become hostages in the hands of those miscreants.

These organisations do not have licenses, own buildings, adequate equipment and skilled manpower. Although the High Court has directed to close all these institutions, there is no initiative of the health department.

Most of the clinics and diagnostic centres in Thakurgaon are not paying attention to the regulations.

According to various sources, these clinics and diagnostic centres are constantly giving wrong treatment and reports. According to the Civil Surgeon's Office, there are 114 clinics and diagnostic centres in 5 upazilas. 90 are listed by the health department.

Thakurgaon Civil Surgeon Mahfuzar Rahman Sarkar said it was not possible to visit the clinics due to the corona situation. Necessary action will be taken against all the clinics where irregularities are found.
