Indian singer and actor Anjan Dutt is preparing to end his theatre career with his upcoming play, “Aro Ekta Lear.” Known for his timeless songs like “Ranjana” and “Bela Bose,” Dutt has also made significant contributions to film with works such as “Bong Connection,” “Madly Bangalee,” and his latest release, “Chalchitra Ekhon.” Released a few months ago on Hoichoi, this film paid tribute to the legendary filmmaker Mrinal Sen and received praise from both audiences and critics alike.
Recently, Dutt took to Facebook to announce his last theatre project, sharing a poster for “Aro Ekta Lear.” Inspired by Shakespeare’s classic “King Lear,” the play is set to premiere in November. Dutt believes this piece will beautifully complete his journey in theatre.
In June, he revealed his plans to stage “King Lear” and expressed his desire to connect with fans worldwide, acknowledging that many cannot travel to Kolkata to see his performances. He shared that Mrinal Sen had always encouraged him to continue his work in theatre. At 71 years of age, Dutt finds joy in returning to the stage, stating, “Coming to the theater at 71 years of age is fun. Shakespeare comes for the first time in my life, King Lear.”
Anjan Dutt’s commitment to his craft has profoundly impacted Bengali theatre and cinema. As he prepares to bid farewell to the stage, his fans eagerly anticipate his final performance in “Aro Ekta Lear,” which promises to be a heartfelt and memorable conclusion to his illustrious career in theatre. Dutt’s legacy will continue to resonate with audiences long after he steps away from the spotlight.
