A Dhaka Court on Thursday placed Bangladesh Jatiya Party (Manzu) Chairman Andaleeve Rahman Partho and Rezaul Hasanat David on a five-day remand each in connection with the vandalism and arson attack on Setu Bhaban in Dhaka on July 18.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sultan Sohag Uddin issued the remand order after Detective Branch (DB) Inspector Md Abu Sayeed Miah, the case's investigation officer, presented a ten-day remand plea.

The investigation officer's remand prayer indicated that Partho had declared solidarity with the student quota movement protesters and was involved in the Setu Bhaban arson, while David was accused of financing the perpetrators.

However, Partho proclaimed his innocence before the court.

On the other hand, David's lawyer said David was abroad from July 13 to July 23.

However, he did not present any supporting documents.

The magistrate denied the bail requests made by the defence and approved the remand for further interrogations.

On July 18, some 250-300 unidentified individuals stormed the Setu Bhaban premises and vandalised vehicles, motorbikes, and various sheds and rooms before setting them on fire.
