Comilla University (CoU) administration has announced a rule for the students to submit applications by appearing physically at the University for availing the institutional e-mail (Edumail) facility.

Many students of the university are frustrated over such a conventional application process in the ongoing corona crisis period while it is time to take advantage of digitalization.

In addition, the students are concerned that because of the pre-payment rules, students living in remote districts will suffer a lot to avail the e-mail facility as the university is still closed.

Faruq Hossain, a student of the Economics Department at CoU said, “My house is in Khulna division. It would have been easier for me to apply if the university was open. However, according to the university rules, now I have to wait until the university opens to get the e-mail facility, which is really frustrating”.

As providing students with Edu-mail is an important issue and there are security risks here, students were asked to apply physically appearing at the University informed concerned university authorities.

“As per the rules, to get the institutional e-mail, students have to collect a form from the university website or from their respective departments. Then they have to submit the forms in the proper process”, said Assistant Database Programmer of the University ICT Cell Md. Masudul Hasan.

University Registrar Professor Dr. Md. Abu Taher said, “After filling out the application forms, student have to get recommendation from the Department Head and the Dean of their Faculty. Then, the forms should be submitted to the IT branch to complete the process”.

The process will take maximum 7 days to complete. Since it is not possible to provide the email facility to every student at once, applications arriving first will be given priority in providing the official e-mail address, he added.
