Nine prominent political figures, including senior Awami League leader and former minister Amir Hossain Amu and JSD president Hasanul Haq Inu, have been shown arrested in separate cases filed over recent anti-discrimination protests in Dhaka’s Jatrabari.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehera Mahbub issued the arrest orders on Wednesday (May 28) following petitions from investigating officers. Others shown arrested include Workers Party president Rashed Khan Menon, former ministers Kamrul Islam and Zunaid Ahmed Palak, former Dhaka North mayor Atiqul Islam, ex-MP Monirul Islam Monu, former home secretary Jahangir Alam, and AL leader Rajoni Akhter Tushi.

The charges include attempted murder and murder. Amu was implicated in an attempted murder case; Inu and Menon in one attempted murder and two murder cases; Palak in one of each; Monu in two murder cases; Kamrul and Atiqul in attempted murder cases; and Jahangir Alam and Tushi in a murder case, all filed at Jatrabari Police Station.
