The coronavirus pandemic has caused the shortage of a number of things worldwide. Some countries are suffering from shortage of PPE equipment while some are suffering from food shortages. However, it is encouraging to know that Bangladesh has ample food stocks within its borders and although there have been predictions of Bangladesh falling into food crisis, that is not going to happen in the foreseeable future because of the government’s agro-friendly initiatives and adequate food production facilities.

On another note, it is also heartening to understand that the government is going to increase food stocks and provide food to the unprivileged. This will undoubtedly save the people who are in the grass roots level from suffering because of food shortages.

The prime minister has given directives so that no

will endure a further collection of food for the citizens

Although, there was a lot of panic buying and people stockpiling food in the beginning of the outbreak in Bangladesh that has not made any dent in the way that food is still being supplied to people. Also, the prime minister has given directives so that no amount of cultivable land remains unfarmed. This will endure a further collection of food for the citizens.

Moverover, according to a report published in this daily, like the previous year this year will also see a massive harvest of rice with the current Boro paddy season. With the harvest already started, it is evident that rice shortages are a far cry from happening in this year. Also, according to experts Bangladesh is almost self sufficient in most food products with its immense production of vegetables and fish and as such there is no such risk of food crisis.

Still there are reports which say that citizens will fall into newly impoverished situation due the impact caused by the coronavirus outbreak. This will lead to unemployment and many people will not be able to afford food despite there being adequate supply. It is imperative for the price of food products thus giving a chance to the poor to afford it and also ensure that food supplies reach those who cannot even afford it after prices are reduced.
