Amer leads Comilla rout of Khulna

Amer Jamal’s five wickets haul led Comilla Victorians to return to winning way after defeating Khulna Tigers by 34 runs in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) cricket on Wednesday.

Held at the Home of Cricket, Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, after winning the match Comilla Victorian secured their fourth victory out of their six encounters.

The reigning champions Victorians in a bid to emerge as the hat-trick champions and to win the title for record fifth times, have been going through ups and downs since their opening match.

Victorian started the campaign with suffering five wickets defeat to Duranto Dhaka but clinched successive wins in the next two matches against Fortune Barisal and Sylhet Strikers.  But again tumbled in the fourth match suffering defeat in a close contest match by eight runs against Rangpur Riders. 

The four times champions after winning the match on Wednesday tipped off to return to the title race, as they earned eight points from six matches and progressed to the third position.

However, on the day captain Litton Das elected to bat first after winning the toss and in the opening stand with Pakistani opener Rezwan scored 69 runs by 9.3 overs.

Though the openers were a bit slower but capitalizing on that, the rest of the batters scored 80 runs from 63 deliveries just to amass a moderate 149 runs for seven wickets to chase for Khulna Tigers. 

Litton Das, who have been struggling this season in the BPL with scoring 24 runs in last four matches looked get back him when the dashing opener scored the team’s highest 45 off 30 balls clubbing two boundaries and four over boundaries. 

Rezwan and Will Jacks were the other top contributors with 21 and 22 runs respectively when Nashum Ahmed and Faheem Ashraf claimed two wickets each for Khulna Tigers.

Chasing to the moderate target, Khulna Tigers saw early setback with the captain Anamul Haque returning to the pavilion on 19 runs when the team’s was also on 19.  

The wickets were falling in regular intervals and Tigers reduced to 49 for five wickets after playing almost half of their innings (8.4 overs).

In fact, the Tigers saw the first debacle on 19th runs with Al Islam bowling out the opener Anamul Haque for 19 runs. 

Anamul, who looked to be danger with hitting three fours and one six in his 19 runs inning off 12 balls Al Aislam bowled him to make the first breakthrough. 

None of the top order batters the middle orders could rebuild the innings when Amer Jamal and Tanvir Islam Khulna bowled some fierce spells .

Pakistani medium pacer Amer Jamal was devastating mood when he took five wickets for 23 runs in his four overs spells.           

In fact Amer Jamal was the main destroyer to bundle out Khulna Tigers for 115 runs by 18.5 overs.
